Aga downs Bencic, Aces suffer 2nd loss
The Singapore Slammers put an end to the Indian Aces' winning run with a dominant display on Wednesday. It was the second loss for the Aces in the IPTL2.
Due to injury, Fabrice Santoro withdrew from the men's singles set, giving the Slammers a 6-0 lead at the very beginning. Aga recorded a 6-3 win over Belinda Bencic, before Mirza and Dodig fell to Pliskova/Brown in a shoot-out, 5-6.
Melo/Murray defeated Dodig/Tomic and then the world no.2 Andy Murray finished strong, ousting Tomic 6-1 for 27-16 overall triumph.
The Pole played just two legs in her debut for the Macromax Indian Aces, in New Delhi and Dubai, but quickly asserted herself as the Most Valuable Player in the event: six singles sets, six victories.
“After a whole year of playing very serious, this is a lot of fun. It’s nice to be in one team. It’s different… you have to get used to the changes of rules. Everything is going so fast," said the Krakow native, who enjoyed every minute of the competition.
