Aga makes second round exit at Wimbledon
Agnieszka’s 2018 Wimbledon campaign ended at hands of Lucie Safarova in the second round of The Championships after a 5-7, 4-6 defeat to the Czech in one hour and 40 minutes on Wednesday.
Aga failed to convert two break/set points in the first set at 5-4, and Safarova went on to take the opener, breaking in the 11th game. The 2012 runner-up suffered a double break to fall behind 1-5 in the second set. She managed to break back once and get close to 4-5*, had seven break point chances in the 10th game for 5-5, but could not convert any of those. With the win, Safarova improved her H2H career mark against Aga to 5-1.
Stats: aces (0-9), double faults (0-2), total points won (73-81).
It was Agnieszka’s 13th appearance at the All England Club, and her earliest exit since 2011 when she lost in R2 to another Czech, Petra Cetkovska.
